An email from ESPN president Jimmy Pitaro, published in the Washington Post, reveals that the Disney-owned company is asking its 100 highest-paid employees to take a three-month, 15 percent pay cut.
Pitaro wrote: ‘Today, I am asking you something that I never imagined I would. We are reaching out to about 100 of our on-air talent and commentators to ask that, at this time, you join our ESPN executives in taking a temporary reduction in pay. We are requesting that you take this reduction on for a three-month period.’
Pitaro’s email says the pay cuts are to help save the jobs of colleagues, with anyone making more than US$500,000 a year asked to take a reduction, according to the Post.
