The DC Defenders won the first game in XFL history 31-19 over the Seattle Dragons Saturday with a crowd of 17,163 almost filling up Audi Field, home of Major League Soccer’s D.C. United.
There was a buzz around the stadium in the hours before the XFL’s debut, with cars lining up to enter parking lots and fans checking out a league-sponsored tailgate. Fans were already sporting Dragons and Defenders gear and queued up in long concession lines at halftime.
Former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones completed 16 of 26 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns.
Jones was a happy man after the game, “It feels good to be out there for a full game, grinding out there with these guys that we put a lot of work in since November,” said Jones.
