Matthew Bari (1:04)
Matthew Bari received a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College in May of 2015. During his undergrad, Bari interned for The Ripken Experience, Ripken Baseball in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
He assisted staff with the execution of 10 weeklong baseball tournaments at its world-class facility, serve as a tournament official.
His Intern duties didn’t stop there, PA announcing duties, serving as a rules consultant, implementing promotions and providing customer service to our guests at a designated field, worked directly with front office personnel in order to successfully execute all 10 tournaments, assist in the Big League Grill, helping the food and beverage department with their needs, performed basic grounds crew duties such as fieldwork, filling water coolers, and cleanup duties.
Bari said he learned how to convey and maintain a high level of professionalism at all times while providing extraordinary external and internal customer service. Another important learning experience was how he was able to absorb training and demonstrate the initiative, desire, and drive to help uphold the values established by the Ripken name and brand.
In May of 2015, shortly after graduating, Bari was hired as a Stadium Operations Assistant with the Midland RockHounds / Midland-Odessa Sockers FC in Midland, Texas.
Bari oversaw a staff of over 20 employees, while performing daily checklist duties assigned by the Director of Stadium Operations and oversaw and perform minor ballpark maintenance projects and repairs.
He assisted in capital improvements to the stadium, managed the Kids Zone/Splash pad/ playground areas, scheduling of game day staff and other events, payroll for game day staff and other events, assisted the Grounds Crew with projects, pre-game, in-game, and post-game when needed, managed pre-season souvenir stand inventory, assisted concessions with inventory and projects, and assisted in other miscellaneous projects and duties in the Front Office.
Bari started his sales career as well when he became a sales associate with the Rockhounds. He did daily sales cold calling, group/corporate/season ticket sales, group/picnic event organization, assisted in planning seasons promotions, assisted in organization on promotions schedule, assisted in creation/implementation of sales and marketing campaigns, on-field personality and MC during home games and media appearances.
September 2016 Bari started with Peak Sports Management as an Account Executive with Austin Peay State University. He developed and implemented comprehensive marketing and promotions plan, while fulfilling and activation of corporate sponsorships. His other duties were overseeing and executing the advertising, sponsorship, and corporate relationship building on behalf of the university, managing and maintaining activation book and building and fostering relationships within the athletic department, generate revenue and attendance for all sports, assist with coordinating in-game promotions for all sports, generating new sales leads through prospecting and referrals, attended numerous networking events around the Clarksville/Nashville area.
Bari surpassed the property’s Jan. 2017 goal, 3 months early. He also assisted in generating over $110,000 of new revenue in his first 4 months.
He then moved to general manager with the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Prospecting and closing new partnerships were the main goal to achieve with the Cougar athletic department. He generated significant revenue through a high volume of new business, maintaining sponsor relationships for university athletic programs, creating and presenting sponsorship packages designed to meet clients’ objectives, collaborating with vendors, sponsors, property staff, and appropriate university athletic personnel to ensure implementation of sponsorships and contract fulfillment, developing creative, sellable inventory to introduce to the school, staff and marketplace, while managing day-to-day operations of sales team.
In November of 2017, the RockHounds asked Bari to return in the Director of Marketing role. Bari’s days consist of prospecting and closing new partnerships, generating significant revenue through a high volume of new business, maintaining client relationships for organization, development and implementation of comprehensive marketing and promotions plans, creating and presenting sponsorship packages designed to meet clients’ objectives, collaborating with vendors, sponsors, organization staff, and appropriate stadium personnel to ensure implementation of sponsorships/tickets and contract fulfillment, developing creative, sellable inventory to introduce to the clients, CRM management, and managing day-to-day operations of sales team and marketing department.
