A playoff chase has J.T. Realmuto feeling energized.
Realmuto hit one of four Philadelphia home runs to help the Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 9-5 on Thursday night.
Cesar Hernandez had a homer and an RBI single and Jean Segura and Adam Haseley also went deep for the Phillies, who remained two games behind the Cubs and Brewers for the second NL wild-card spot.
Philadelphia blew the game open with three runs in the eighth off right-hander Anthony Swarzak thanks to Realmuto’s 25th of the season, a two-run shot, and Sean Rodriguez’s RBI double.
The Philadelphia Phillies knew their season was slipping away, and that each loss going forward was significant. As a result, their bats were ready to rumble tonight, and the Braves simply did not have an answer for the Philadelphia bats in a 9-5 loss Thursday night. (READ MORE) by | Talking Chop
As you may have heard, before this series began, I said that the Atlanta Braves’ rate of winning was unsustainable (trademark pending), and that the Phillies would take three out of four games. I may have been a bit too optimistic about the Phillies (They are running guys like Jason Vargas and Drew Smyly out there after all), but I was probably spot on about the Braves.
