Former NBA player Mike Miller released a statement Thursday indicating his excitement over becoming an assistant coach on Penny Hardaway’s staff at the University of Memphis. “I’m so excited at the prospect of joining Coach Hardaway at Memphis in no small part due to the fact that basketball is woven into the fabric of this city,” Miller said. Despite a late push by Memphis, touted shooting guard Connor Crabtree signed with the Tulane men’s basketball team on Wednesday. Crabtree, a 6-foot-6 native of Hillsborough, North Carolina, averaged 21.4 points, 4.8 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals for Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia, this year. He shot 53 percent from the floor and 51 percent (119 of 233) on 3-pointers, earning interest from new Memphis coach Penny Hardaway when he was hired in March.

Cincinnati and Mississippi will make return trips to the Emerald Island Classic in November. Both schools competed in the inaugural tournament in 2014, when the Rebels defeated the Bearcats 66-54 in the final. Global Sports announced four of the eight teams on Thursday. A list of notable underclassmen who have announced their intentions to enter the 2018 NBA draft. The deadline for college players to enter the draft is April 22.
