Jeff Eisenberg, The Dagger, writes the Duke assistant many thought might be Mike Krzyzewski’s successor isn’t waiting around for the legendary Blue Devils coach to retire. Jeff Capel has instead accepted an offer to become the next head coach at Pittsburgh, the school confirmed Tuesday afternoon.
Jeff Eisenberg, The Dagger, also writes Texas-Arlington fired Scott Cross after 12 seasons, a dumbfounding decision considering what he has accomplished recently. The Mavericks averaged 24 victories the past three years, finished in the top four of their league each season and defeated the likes of Ohio State, Texas, Saint Mary’s, Memphis and BYU out of conference.

From Jeff Goodman and Jeff Borzello write Louisville has agreed to a seven-year deal worth about $4 million per year with Xavier men’s basketball coach Chris Mack, multiple sources told ESPN. Mack has informed his players of his decision to take the job.

Former Toronto Raptors coach Darrell Walker has been hired as the coach at Arkansas-Little Rock. Walker’s hiring follows the firing of former coach Wes Flanigan this month after a school-record 25 losses by the Trojans. Walker, 57, most recently spent two seasons as the coach at Division II Clark Atlanta University, where he was 45-18.
